Whittier Host Lions were excited to support the @lasernahs Oasis Program led by teacher Mrs. Lisa Barnes.
Oasis is a special intervention program for sophomores and juniors. OASIS stands for “Organized Academic Support in School”
In this academic and emotional support class, students selected by their counselors as those on the verge of dropping out. They are partnered with 11th & 12th grade mentors to help guide them and navigate a successful academic high school experience.
Each year the WHLC club honors the hard working students who have stayed in the program and are ready to pursue a trade, vocation or higher learning beyond high school.
Our current President Rick Gomez, presented checks of $500, to 3 Hard Working Seniors.
The Whittier Host Lions would like to congratulate the program, the students and @lisabarnes03 on another incredibly successful school year.

It was a PAC 12 Battle between UCLA and Standford.
We were treated to a special program today by our very own past President and Melvin Jones award winner and UCLA Alum Frank Hill and our 2nd Vice President and Stanford Alum George Geokaris.
They debated the current education system in this country. Franks position was we should shift to a Voucher program and allow parents and the Free Market decide how our children should be educated.
George, being a former Superintendanf for the Fullerton School district was the opposing argument.
Both gents provided great evidence to support their claims. It was fun and enlightening.
Thank you fellas.

With heavy hearts and deep love we announce the passing of Nancy A Lemus, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who left us peacefully at the age of 89.
Nancy’s life was full of love especially for her family & her cherished Whittier Host Lions Club members.
In 2001, Nancy founded Steve’s Barbecue in Uptown Whittier, which quickly became a staple in the community. Though small in stature, Nancy had a spunk that could fill any space.
She was a familiar and beloved presence in Whittier, recognized instantly by her bright orange hair and warm, lively personality.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren adored her. Her love for animals, especially her cats was unmatched.
She will be deeply missed but never forgotten, especially at our weekly Whittier Lions Club meetings. Always with a big smile and warm greeting.
Forever a Lions Club staple…Rest In Paradise Nancy 🦁
