Sight Fair
Ensuring the continuing gift of good eyesight has always been a foundational mission for the Whittier Host Lions Club. The annual Sight Fair is hosted by our Club in conjunction with another local Lions Club, as well as with the support from local ophthalmologist and other local nonprofit partners. During this event, attendees are provided FREE vision screening and FREE eyeglasses that have been collected, cleaned, recalibrated, and recycled to new users for further use. Since 2021 the Sight Fair event, has served over 1,000 local citizens with examinations and glasses.
Sight For Kids Etc.
The Sight For Kids Etc. is the Club’s biggest annual fundraiser. We volunteer our time, and our local restaurant partners donate delicacies and wine, allowing all net proceeds to return to the community through our grants and scholarships. Located in the Whittier Community Center, this annual wine and food tasting event features an outstanding sampling of food donated by local restaurants and wine donated from the best California wineries. The event also features an energetic live auction of some wonderful travel packages and silent auction offering gifts and treasures for all. This event is scheduled for October and is open to the public.
Scholarship Presentations
The Club has always been a promoter of higher education. One of the ways the Club promotes continuing education is by providing scholarships to graduating Whittier high school students. In this regard, the Club has annually awarded students from the six Whittier high schools (La Serna HS; Whittier HS; Pioneer HS; Cal HS; Santa Fe HS and St. Paul HS) achievement-based scholarships. We are positive the fine young students receiving scholarships will sometime down the line pay it forward and help make our beloved Whittier community an even better place to live, work and visit.
Shop With A Lion
Our Whittier Host Lions Club members partner with the Burlington Coat Factory to provide families from the Whittier Women and Children's Crisis Shelter and the Whittier/Pico Rivera Boys & Girls Club with gift cards for kids to shop for things they need to make their Christmas holidays special.
Academic & Vocational Grant Presentations
The Whittier Host Lions Club has always supported local students as they pursue their higher education and vocational training. One of the ways the Club promotes continuing education is by providing grants to graduating Whittier high school students. In this regard, the Club awards annually students from the six Whittier high schools (La Serna, Whittier, Pioneer, California, Santa Fe, and St. Paul High Schools) achievement-based scholarships and vocational grants. We know our future will be in the hands of these fine examples of students and believe we need to be supporting their pursuits of happiness.
